It is the eighth time Gdansk Music Academy has organized the International Chamber Music Competition, its first edition being held in 1997 when Gdansk celebrated the 1000^th anniversary of its existence and Gdansk Music Academy its 50^th anniversary. The first edition of Johannes Brahms International Chamber Music Competition took place on 3 April 1997, exactly 100 years from the composer’s death. The great works of Brahms have been included in compulsory programs of the competition’s consecutive editions and the figure of the distinguished composer has become the patron of the competition. The participants of the past competitions represented the countries of Eastern and Western Europe and Asia. The 8^th edition of the competition differs from its previous editions – the choice of the repertoire has been broadened and the age limit of the participants extended in the hope that the competition will attract even more musicians. All those interested in the events connected with the competition are invited to actively take part in the 8^th International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition.

Już po raz ósmy gdańska Akademia Muzyczna organizuje Międzynarodowy Konkurs Muzyki Kameralnej. Jego pierwsza edycja miała miejsce w 1997 roku, kiedy nasze miasto obchodziło swoje 1000-lecie, nasza Uczelnia 50 lat działalności, a rozpoczął się 3 kwietnia – w dniu, w którym minęło dokładnie 100 lat od śmierci Johannesa Brahmsa. Genialne dzieła kameralne tego kompozytora znalazły się między innymi w obowiązkowych programach wszystkich kolejnych edycji, a osoba wybitnego twórcy stała się patronem konkursu. Uczestnicy dotychczasowych konkursów reprezentowali kraje wschodniej i zachodniej Europy i Azji.

Tym razem zwiększyliśmy możliwości wyboru repertuaru, a także o kilka lat rozszerzyliśmy limit wieku uczestników, w nadziei, że uczestników 8. edycji konkursu będzie jeszcze więcej.
